He's used his power to censor people he disagreed with ever since he took over Twitter. It's his private propaganda platform. Say things he doesn't like and he'll punish you.
The news is that he has a new group of targets. And those weren't aware or were in denial about his censorship.

People who can make no distinction between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants (i.e. "They ain't like me") got suckered.
The tech bros won this election, but what I am wondering is how or why Elon hasn't figured how to replace almost all his employees with AI.
I am sure that the anti immigrant fervor is deeply rooted in racism of one sort or another as are most themes floating around the maga sites. Don't forget the enormous influence of Thiel and Musk and their experiences growing up in apartheid South Africa (FT, archived)[0] "The Shadow of apartheid South Africa in America" and you can add intense transphobia from Musk's bitterness with a trans daughter. Brief quote shows the connection:
> The white South African nightmare in the 1980s, hanging over everything, was that one day Black people would rise up and massacre (minority) whites. Like the US, South Africa was a violent society and becoming more violent in the 80s. Musk’s teenage recollections of seeing murders on trains may not be entirely factual, but do evoke the atmosphere of the era. He warned in 2023 about potential “genocide of white people in South Africa”. Trump’s recent claim about “American girls being raped and sodomised and murdered by savage criminal aliens” preyed on similar white fears.
Legal or illegal immigrants are both human people who need to be treated with dignity and respect, and have the onus to treat their host country with dignity and respect.
Your link mentions the inequality between blacks and whites in s.africa but the H1B revelations as of late have been showing that the immigration is for cheaper labour and well below market rates.
To be Anti-immigration is to really be pro standard of living. Immigrants should come to get the host country standard of living, not to bring acceptance of a lower standard of living.
I guess he is an "absolutist" as long as you absolutely agree with his political interests.
