I don’t live in California but was visiting Half Moon Bay over the summer, and was really excited to go by Mavericks, despite it being in the summer a tranquil location with none of these giant waves. We then walked the ocean cliff trail at nearby Devil’s Slide Trail and saw whales for the first time in our lives. Multiple whales surfacing in the same area for eternity it seemed. We gave up and kept walking, and saw more whales a half mile away! Walked back and then again saw the original group still surfacing in the same spot! Amazing nature in that area. Spoke with our friend that lives 30 mins away and they’d never seen a whale there.

There was also a fatal accident that day that shut down part of highway 1 nearby, which I’ve read is not that uncommon.

My friend Sebastian will not like this. He lives in Nazare, but this monster looks much better.
